The Great
The Great explores the theme of power through the example of the Italian politician and media mogul Silvio Berlusconi: a parable of power and hubris, politics and lies, whose main character finds himself in a kind of limbo. No longer human, he is denied a place among the gods. Dark, desaturated images paint a bleak heroic epic whose images escape from the present into dreamlike scenes between past and future.
This photographic portrait of the politician and his relationship to the truth was created as part of the Wüstenrot Förderpreis für Dokumetarfotografie. The Great' is a staging of the documentary whose aim is not simply to duplicate the subject. The work has a relationship to reality that is as contradictory as the politician it portrays.
